Writing

Salam..
the point of writing is not to be grammatically correct, or to be proficient in vocabulary; it is to convey ideas. that is where Malaysian education has failed so far; we've been focusing too much on grammar that we forget about the main reason people write; to express ideas.

Love

salam..
i've been wondering, a lot of people are really into relationships, and finding this so called, 'love'.
my question is simple; what is love ? what difference is love towards ur family, and towards the opposite sex ?
is it really love, or is it lust ? why do we search for love ? why why why ?

with all due respect; for those in relationships, please enlighten me. =)

PS : by love, i mean love towards the opposite sex. we all can understand love and affection towards our family, right ?

The Muslim and His Lord : Obedient to the commands of his Lord

#The Muslim and His Lord

OBEDIENT TO THE COMMANDS OF HIS LORD

"none of you(truly) believes until is inclination is in accordance with what i have brought" (an-nawawi's  forty hadith. hadith no. 41, p.124)

Belief is a very important part of Islam. the word 'Iman' itself can be translated as "to believe". many of us THINK that we believe in Islam but deep down inside, our faith towards Islam is very little. we still have doubts and we think that there might be things that we do that is perhaps better than what Allah wants us to do..

the whole issue of faith(iman) is a complex matter. i dare not dwelve into the topic that much.
but what i do know is, faith is something that motivates you; that gives you reason.
it is faith and trust that we work till the end of the month in complete belief that we will get our salary at the end of the month.
it is also faith that we are willing to go through years of studying in university in the hope of getting a good job. i am in New York right now because of that faith. if not, then i'd probably be sitting around at home doing nothing and expect a job offer. it is also faith that brought Bill Gates the realization that he needs to quit school in order to pursue his business.

faith and hope is pretty much in the same category. and in islam, we can clearly understand our level of faith by looking at how much we truly believe in the words of Allah. we may say that the quran is true, but how do we know that we believe in the quran ?

to do so, is to calibrate, when Allah gives an order that doesnt make any sense, do we obey ?
like for instance, zina. zina with contraceptive methods is completely rational in the modern secular and liberal world. think about it, sex, with no diseases, no babies.
but to obey when Allah says that zina itself is haram and is bad for you, and the society, is to believe and have faith in Islam.

how to know when we do not have faith in Islam ?
we simply say things like, "even if the Quran says that it is haram, it is completely legit in the sense that i know myself better."
that, is when you dont actually believe in Islam..

may Allah guide you and me, and the people around us away from disbelief; let it be major, or minor. may we always be reminded of renewing our faith. ameen insyaAllah..
wallahu'alam..

The Muslim and His Lord: The Believer is Alert

salam warahmatullah..
in abt 2 years ago, i bought this book called "The Ideal Muslim" by Muhammad Ali Al-Hashimi in Madinah while i was performing Umrah.
and after reading it, i find the book very much holistic in a very simple manner
it contains all the basic hadeeths that one has to know regarding various aspects of life
and i think for a muslim to be able to truly understand how to be a muslim, it is vital for us to understand the very basics of Islam Identity.

and abt a month ago i bought the same book online (because i didnt bring it from Malaysia)
but since then, i havent started reading it (because i've read it before). so i was thinking, perhaps it would be a motivation for me to read it for the second time if i were to share it with you guys.
because i think the book is a good book, i think that i should really share bits about the book on my blog
i'll try as much as i can to update this blog with posts from the book.
so, here goes.

#The Muslim and His Lord

THE BELIEVER IS ALERT

"the true and sincere Muslim is alert and open-minded to the magnificence of Allah's creation. He knows that it is Almighty Allah Who is in control of the affairs of the universe and of mankind."

the author started the book with something basic, something very fundamental. understanding who's in charge, and always reminding oneself with the thought that, the world is not ran by Goldman Sachs or Rockefeller; it is run by Allah. if we can truly understand that it is Allah that controls everything that moves and that is dead, then we can be able to see that in whatever that we go through, nothing can happen except by the will of Allah.

"the ideal muslim recognizes the signs of His unlimited power in every aspect of creation, and his faith increases"

well this goes back to the very basic values that this blog believes in; to Think.
there are plenty of verses in the Quran mentioning how Allah SWT asks us to think, to ponder, and to reflect.
such use of the brain, if done in a positive manner, will lead to the understanding of how the world works, and what are the most important things in life.

"Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day- there are indeed signs for men of understanding - men who celebrate the praises of Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the [wonders of] creation in the heavens and the earth,  [with the thought]: 'Our Lord ! Nor for naught have You created [all] this ! Glory to You ! Give us salvation from the Penalty of the Fire " (Quran 3: 190-191)

The quran mentions how the world that we live in, is indeed signs of the creator, of the very reason why we are alive on this world in the first place..

My suggestion :
use your time alone very wisely. being alone can be depressing if we focus on the people that are not around us. but contemplating on oneself, and thinking of Allah can make you fall in love with being alone.
truly, the prophet Muhammad SAW used to practice tahannuth in which he climbs to the cave of Hira' in order to get away and contemplate.
whenever we are walking alone to class, or about to go to sleep. take a few minutes just to think of how the world revolves around us, and how Allah is at the center of everything; controlling, monitoring, testing us.

Change the World ?

salam wrhmatullah...

there's a lot of crazy stuff going on in the world.
and most of us would probably feel sorry for the oppressed.
sorry for the people that are living a hard life.
sorry for those who can barely have a life.
sorry for those who cant do anything.
sorry for those who work just for food. and has to see children die of starvation.

and all we can do is, nothing.
that helpless feeling truly sucks. it feels like you want to get up and lend a helping hand
but u cant.
ur just a person
with no power, no influence.
ur just one guy
a million miles from harm.
ur just a commoner
whom nobody knows.
ur just a sinner
far away from being the ideal muslim

but remember
the prophet Muhammad SAW was a commoner.
whom nobody knows
Umar Al-Khattab was a sinner
the first one to resolve on murdering the prophet Muhammad SAW.
the prophet Isa Alaihi Salam was just a person
with no power, no influence. born with one parent and no father.

it all starts with one man.
one guy.
making a change.
starting with himself.
stop waiting
start making a change; within ourselves.
because if everybody is waiting for something.
who's gonna make anything happen ?
take a look at the man in the mirror.
and lets stop pointing fingers.

because of all the riches that we have,
we owe it to the people who were born poor
who have sufficient intelligence, but lack time and opportunity.
who has to use all their muscles in order to get a drop of water.
who has to walk miles for food.
whose everyday mission is to stay alive

and we owe everything to Allah.
and that, alone, is enough reason to persevere and strive.

let us strive. dont let the world be ruled by slaves of syaitan..
dont let money flow like rivers to the pockets of the disbeliever..
because u and me, we both know; that the world is a better place with Islam.
and nobody else knows about it.
because nobody has experienced it.
and because nobody really tried to bring Islam to the world.

words arent enough.
words can be written by any hand.
words can be spoken by any tongue.
but action can only be reflected by a believer's soul.
a believer's heart.

you, and me, we're both sinners.
but that doesnt mean we have to be.
life is a test.
lets pass this one.
be the change you want to see.
one day at a time.

Grateful

salam warahmatullah...

you might have noticed that it has been a long time since i last posted an entry
no, i have not yet forgotten abt this blog.
to be honest, i have about 3-4 entries that i wrote abt halfway but then decided to stop.

well,
today i am thinking a lot on why i am here
thinking a lot of the reason why i am studying.
why God puts me in this position.
this morning as i was walking to my recitation class
i saw a friend of mine
he's 28 years old. he has 5 years of work experience
yet, he's in school
he probably spent 5 years to work and get money for college
coz its darn expensive
however,
when i think about it,
he has less money than i do (technically)
which means, i am better off than he is
i have more opportunities than he does
more doors are open for me than for him
i dont have to work twice as hard to get to where i am
but the question is, am i better than him ?
if i am getting more things, more comfort and more convenience in order to achieve my target, why aren't I better than him ?

and then i watched this vid

the prophet muhammad SAW lived in a very small house near the mosque
and when we think about it, he changed the world.
that small house, changed the world.
apparently the comfort that we all seek, the things that we think would boost productivity, the things that would make everything a lot easier, isn't a prerequisite to success.
if the prophet SAW can change the whole world, why cant we change a small part of it ?
we were given all the tools to make life easier, so that we dont have to worry about life anymore. so that we can think of the more important things in life.
but what good has all the luxury done to us ?

its all a matter of choice.
choice of whether we want to use the God-given luxury for good, or for our own self satisfaction

hazhaa min fadhlillah. sawaa un ashkur au akfur..
this is (all) from Allah's mercy. whether we are grateful, or in denial.
