Mock Interview : Alternative Media (Internet-blog) Poses Excessive Effects to Societies

ALTERNATIVE MEDIA (INTERNET-BLOG) POSES EXCESSIVE EFFECTS TO SOCIETIES.

Concept : alternate medias such as blog, forum and other means of media through internet may cause excessive effects on societies.

Alternative media : media that is not related to printed material or normal means of mass media. In other words, informal media. Eg: blog, forum, websites.

Main media : newspaper, news, magazines and television.

Points : 

1 ) Alternative media such as the internet is too wide. The contents are too open and are not filtered. Citizens are open to voice out their opinions through these medias. The concept of freedom of speech is practiced. This type of freedom may lead to catastrophic effects in countries that do not practice freedom of speech such as Malaysia. Racism and other types of ideologies can easily be spread from these mediums to various societies causing the mindset of societies to change. Communism can easily be spread. These ideologies may be against the policies of the government. This could lead to riots and demonstrations in protest to the governments policies which are against these ideologies. It could also lead to racist war in nations such as Malaysia. Thus causing instability to a certain country.

2) Internet is a medium of spreading false statements and lies. In comparison to newspapers, the contents of the internet is written by anyone, thus the sources of the contents are not 100% valid. Whereas the contents of the newspapers are based on certain sources and can be considered valid. By internet, it is hard for the government to track down a writer with false information as the internet is a vast and if we can track the computer, there is a possibility that the writer could be using a public computer such as at the cyber café. so through the internet, writers who go against the law is harder to track in comparison to authors of a newspaper or a magazine.

3) Alternative media has explicit contents which can effect the mind of younger generations. The exposure to explicit contents plus western influence has caused the younger generation to be influenced with the culture. The mindset of the youth is now based on western culture. The social values of the eastern culture is now eroded slowly and in the future, there would be no eastern culture as the society has been completely westernized through alternative media such as the internet. Besides that, the exposure to these contents can influence the social problems that we face today. The rate of social problems will increase and criminal rates will also increase.

Conclusion : The government should take steps in filtering contents from alternative medias. Organizations should be built specifically to monitor the contents of the internet, to filter and to remove provocative contents in the internet.
